1. Palliative care doctor needed. Full time

Ganga Prem Hospice is looking for an experienced full-time palliative care doctor cum administrator for its inpatient hospice facility and home care service. The position is based in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. The job requires dedication to the cause of caring for the terminally ill, and offers excellent and unique learning opportunities under experienced oncologists and palliative care practitioners who are pioneers in their fields of profession.

Caring for the terminally ill and supporting them as they negotiate the hardest part of their lives, can be a moving but also extremely rewarding life experience.

Minimum Qualification: MBBS (post-graduation, MD, and experience in palliative care preferred);
Minimum Experience: 05 years;
Job Location: Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India
Nature of Job: Full-time (Monday to Saturday)
Salary: Rs 60,000 Rs 80,000 p.m (based on experience and qualification)
Computer Proficiency
Candidate will be expected to be proficient in MS Office.
Language fluency
The candidate should be fluent in written and spoken English and Hindi.

Job-Responsibilities of Palliative Care Doctor-cum-Administrator include, but are not limited to:

Clinical Responsibilities:

  1. Delivery of specialist level palliative medical care to Ganga Prem Hospice inpatients (using a holistic approach, addressing each patients physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs);
  2. Daily or more frequent rounds at the inpatient facility, clinical symptom assessment and management, and emotional counselling to patients and their family members/carers;
  3. Making accurate, legible and comprehensive entries in the patients records and to ensure continuity of patient care by handover to colleagues/team;
  4. Working under the guidance of the medical director, and in coordination with other palliative care physicians, and experts of other specialities, to deliver world-class hospice care to patients. Reviewing of complex cases with the medical director, and palliative care physicians, as necessary or advised;
  5. Ensuring that patients dietary and nutritional needs in the Hospice are adequately met;
  6. Undertaking home visits, and leading the home care teams of nurses, doctors, social workers, therapists, and volunteers in delivering palliative care to patients;
  7. Bereavement follow up of families/carers of patients as appropriate;
  8. Providing telephonic advice and guidance to patients;
  9. Provision of clinical support to junior medical staff as required and the formal educational supervision of trainees;
  10. Ensuring optimal use of medicine to patients;
  11. Supervising medicine prescription and distribution to patients, and record-keeping;
  12. Improve the all-round quality of medical care and support services given to all patients;
  13. Participating in Continuing Medical Education/Continuing Professional Development exercises, educating oneself of the advances in palliative care on an ongoing basis;
  14. Work as part of the multi-disciplinary, specialist palliative care team to optimise IPD, home care, and OPD patient care

Preferred Qualities:

  •  The doctor should be compassionate, and eager to learn;
  • Eager to undergo professional and formal training in palliative care;
    Possess passion to work for patients with life-limiting illnesses;
  • Can empathise with patients and their family members/carers;
  • Can work with an inter-disciplinary team of health care, as well as non-health care workers;
  • Willing to relocate to Rishikesh.

2. Volunteer doctors and nurses needed. Part time or full time. Long or short term.

Qualified volunteer doctors and nurses are needed in Rishikesh for the Ganga Prem Hospice home care programme. A compassionate and caring nature is essential. Knowledge of Hindi preferred. Doctors and nurses will need to look after their own lodging and food arrangements.

3. Volunteer for office work. Part time or full time. Long or short term.

A volunteer is needed at the GPH office in Rishikesh to help with simple office work. Basic computer knowledge and a good command of English is essential. The work includes data entry for cancer clinics and home care services. The volunteer will need to look after his/her own lodging and food arrangements.
